Overview

The Crocker-Kingsley at Blue Line January 2017
Artist Squeak Carnwath has agreed to jury the show.

The Kingsley Art Club, in cooperation with the Crocker Art Museum and Blue Line Gallery, held the 78th biennial juried exhibition in January and February, 2017. Juror Squeak Carnwath selected the works and awarded the cash prizes for “Best of Show,” first, second,  third prize, and honorable mention.

Works representing a diversity of media – painting, sculpture, and photography – in a range of artistic styles from representational to abstract to conceptual were submitted.  California’s established artists as well as those just emerging on the scene submitted up to three entries. A selection of five works from the show, chosen by the museum staff, were displayed at the Crocker Art Museum in March 2017.

In 2012, the Kingsley and the Museum began a partnership with Blue Line Gallery, which hosted the show at their venue in Roseville.  This was the 76th Crocker-Kingsley exhibition.  First held in 1927, the exhibition became juried in 1940, a tradition that continues to the present day.  Past exhibitors have included many of the premier names in American and Californian art, including Robert Arneson, Kathryn Uhl Ball, Elmer Bischoff, Fred Dalkey, David Gilhooly, Ralph Goings, Gregory Kondos, Roland Petersen, Mel Ramos, Ruth Rippon, Fritz Scholder and Wayne Thiebaud.
