About Kingsley Art Club

The mission of the Kingsley Art Club is educational: to promote the knowledge and appreciation of the arts among the members and community, and to promote and encourage the teaching of the arts.

We achieve this mission through the following activities:
  • Lectures The Kingsley sponsors a monthly lecture series. The lectures are held at the Crocker Art Museum on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, from September through May. The lectures feature professionals from a wide variety of art-related disciplines. Typical speakers include well-known artists from both the visual and performing arts, museum curators, art educators and collectors.
  • Field Trips Several times each year, our travel committee plans field trips to art exhibitions and other art-related sites in the local area and nearby Northern California regions. Field trips sell out quickly, and are limited to members only. Non-members may join the trips if the bus does not sell out.
  • Elementary School Art Docent Program We sponsor art appreciation and hands-on activities at a local elementary school. For many students, this may be their primary introduction to the visual arts, including their first trip to a museum (the annual trip to the Crocker Art Museum).
  • Merit Awards Program To support art in local community colleges, the Kingsley sponsors an annual awards program for 6 local colleges (American River, Cosumnes, Folsom Lake, Sacramento City, Sierra and Yuba). Each college selects one outstanding student to receive the monetary award. The awards are presented each May at the annual Merit Awards reception.
  • The Crocker-Kingsley @ Blue Line Gallery In partnership with both the Crocker Art Museum and Blue Line Arts, the Kingsley sponsors a bi-annual juried art competition. Considered one of the most prestigious competitions on the West Coast, past exhibits have included early works by many premier artists such as Wayne Thiebaud, Gregory Kondos, and Stephen Kaltenbach. The competition is open to any California artist, and has been a launching point for many emerging artists. The entire show is mounted at the Blue Line Gallery in Roseville for 6 weeks. The winners then move to the Crocker Art Museum for a period of about 3 months. The next show is scheduled for January 2019 through May 2019.
